SEO for tax & accounting firms

For tax firms, knit into cloth. The countdown below is the point.

Tax preparer SEO that puts your firm on top in your own city.

You searched tax preparer SEO in July, and the timing is the entire point. Whatever city you're in, the goal is the same: be the tax firm that shows up first when your neighbors search “tax preparer near me,” “CPA in [your town],” or “file my taxes.” The only window to get there before the rush is now — tax season is six months out.

Here's what most firms miss: SEO compounds slowly, but tax demand arrives all at once. From late January to April 15, local tax searches explode, then vanish. The firms that own those weeks in their city started building last summer. This is last summer — for next season.

I'm David Weaver, based in Georgia, and I work with tax firms across the country, ranking each one in its own local market. Tax prep is competitive, seasonal, and high-value, so this is real ongoing work — Growth- and Scale-tier, with monthly content and earned link-building, not a $500 set-and-forget. Start with the tools below: one shows your runway, the other what a ranked tax season is worth.

01

How much runway do you have before tax season?

How much runway do you have before tax season?

Tax demand arrives in a wall — “tax preparer near me” explodes from late January to April 15, then vanishes. SEO takes months to build. This shows whether the calendar is on your side right now.

03

Why July beats January

A tax firm that starts SEO in January is already too late. Rankings don't turn on with a switch; they build over months as Google learns to trust your site and your Google Business Profile. Start in the summer and you can climb into the top local results before the searches arrive. Start during the rush and you're paying to compete for attention you could have earned for free.

The stakes are simple. Across the web, Ahrefs found 96.55% of pages get zero traffic from Google, and Backlinko's study puts about 28% of clicks on the first result. In your city, a handful of tax firms will own “tax preparer near me” this season. The only question is whether the runway you have right now goes to building your position — or your competitor's.

04

Two tax firms per city — and I aim both at the top

Here's the model: I take at most two tax firms per city, and I work to put both of you as high as possible — ideally the first two names your neighbors see when they search. Two of my clients at the top, everyone else pushed down. Once your city's two seats are filled, it's closed — I turn new firms away, and I won't hand the spot next to you to a competitor.

Stack that on the calendar and the urgency doubles. The runway to rank before tax season is closing, and so are the seats in your city. Claim one now and I'm building you toward the top before the rush. Wait, and both the seat and the head start go to someone else.

05

What's a ranked tax season worth to your firm?

What would ranking actually be worth to you?

This is how SEO turns into money. Search demand exists whether you show up or not — ranking decides who gets the click, and the click becomes a customer. Pick the four numbers that fit your business.

1 · What is one new customer worth to you?

2 · Monthly searches for what you do, in your area

3 · Where you rank today

4 · How many visitors become paying customers?

+285

new visitors / mo

14

more customers a month

$11,400

added revenue / mo

Projected added revenue in year one

$136,800 / year

An estimate from your own numbers and published click-through data — a genuine top-3 position captures roughly a fifth of clicks (Backlinko). It is a projection, not a guarantee; no honest SEO promises a ranking. Send me your real numbers and I'll pressure-test this and show you the path to it.

06

What ranking a tax firm in its city actually takes

This is more than a listing. To own local tax search, the work has to cover:

  • A fully optimized Google Business Profile

Claimed, verified, categorized, and active for your real office — the single biggest lever for the local map pack.

  • Pages for your city and your services

Individual returns, small-business and bookkeeping, IRS resolution, your town and the ones nearby — real pages, not one thin “services” list.

  • Content that ranks year-round and peaks in season

Answers to what taxpayers actually search — deadlines, deductions, what to bring — that build authority in the fall and convert in the spring.

  • Reviews and reputation

A steady, answered review flow. Tax is a trust purchase; the star rating in the map pack moves the call.

  • Technical foundation and speed

Server-rendered, schema-marked, fast on a phone — so Google can read you and a stressed searcher doesn't bounce.

  • Earned link-building, every month

Ongoing outreach to earn links and local coverage — the off-page trust that separates page one from page three. Earned, never bought or spammed.

07

Why tax prep needs the higher tier — and what it costs

This isn't the $500 set-it-and-forget plan. Tax is a competitive, seasonal, high-value niche, which means it needs real monthly content and off-page work to win — the Growth plan ($1,500/mo: about fifteen search-focused pages improved each month, internal links, technical fixes) or Scale ($3,000/mo: roughly thirty pages a month plus outreach to earn links and coverage). Most tax firms should plan for Growth or Scale, not the entry tier.

Every engagement starts with the $750 audit and roadmap, which credits fully into a $2,500 foundation sprint if you continue. From there the monthly plan does the compounding work through the fall so you're ranked when January hits. Full pricing is on this site — no hidden numbers, and no promise of a position, because anyone who guarantees a ranking is selling weather.

08

Need a new website too?

Many tax firms are running a slow, dated site that SEO can't save on its own. If that's you, I'll build a real one — a fast, modern, server-rendered site engineered to rank and to turn an anxious searcher into a booked appointment, not a template with your logo on it.

Ask about the full package: a professional new website plus the SEO to get it found, from one builder. One project, one point of contact, one bill — the design, the code, and the marketing handled by the same person, in time for tax season.

Straight answers

Asked often. Answered honestly.

Why start SEO in the summer instead of during tax season?
Because SEO takes months to build, and tax demand arrives all at once. Start now and you can rank before the late-January spike. Start in January and you've already missed the climb — you'll spend the season paying for visibility you could have earned. July is the runway; use it.
Will you actually rank me in my own city?
That's the whole point. Your firm's real location is what ranks locally; I build and optimize the site and Google profile behind it so you own “tax preparer near me” in your town. I work remotely, so where you are doesn't matter — the ranking happens in your market, not mine.
Do you only work with tax firms in Georgia?
No — anywhere in the US. I'm based in Georgia and work with tax and accounting firms across the country, ranking each one in its own local market. Everything runs on calls, email, and staging links you click from your phone.
What package do tax preparers need?
Usually Growth ($1,500/mo) or Scale ($3,000/mo), not the $500 local tier. Tax is competitive and seasonal, so it needs real monthly content and, at the Scale level, ongoing outreach to earn links. It starts with a $750 audit that credits into the foundation sprint. Full pricing is on this site.
Do you build backlinks every month?
At the Scale tier, yes — ongoing outreach to earn links and local coverage. The key word is earned: real links from real sites, never bought link packages or spam, which violate Google's guidelines and get sites penalized. Honest off-page work compounds; shortcuts get you dropped.
Do you build the website too, or only the SEO?
Both, and together is strongest. If your current site is slow or dated, I'll build a fast, modern one engineered to rank, then do the SEO to get it found. Ask about a full website + SEO package — one builder for the design, the code, and the marketing.
Why cap it at two firms per city?
Because two is enough to own the top of the search in that city without selling the seat next to you to your competition. I'd rather put my two clients as high as possible for that market — ideally the first two firms your neighbors see — than let a rival take one of those spots. Two per city, aimed as high as I can get you, then it's closed: first come, first served. No one can promise an exact position, but I can promise the other seat won't go to your competitor.
What do the tools above tell me?
The countdown shows how many weeks of runway you have before tax season and whether it's enough. The projector turns your own numbers into the revenue that ranking would add. Both are free, no email — send me the results and your city and I'll tell you exactly what winning your season takes.

Run the countdown and the projector, then send me your firm and your city. I'll confirm two things: that you still have the runway before tax season, and that your city still has one of its two seats open. Right now, both are likely — but neither lasts.
