Tampa Bay SEO, built to be found
Tampa Bay, knit into cloth. The scorecard below does the talking.
Tampa SEO for businesses that intend to be found in Tampa Bay.
You searched Tampa SEO because being invisible in a market this size is expensive. Hillsborough County alone has roughly 58,000 businesses, and dozens of agencies competing for the same first page. About half of all Google clicks go to the top three results — everything below that fights for scraps.
Tampa Bay is big and still growing: around 3.4 million people, the 18th-largest metro in the country, plus 28 million visitors a year searching “near me” and “open now.” That's an enormous audience — but only if your site is the one Google shows. Most Tampa businesses never reach the map pack. A few own it. That gap is the whole game.
I'm David Weaver. I build and rank sites — server-rendered, schema-correct, fast on a phone, tracked end to end. I'm based in Columbus, Georgia and work with Tampa Bay businesses remotely. Start with the scorecard below: about a minute, and it shows you where your local search is leaking.

Tampa Bay, in four numbers
- ~58,000
- businesses in Hillsborough County you compete with (FL EDR, 2024)
- 3.4M
- people in metro Tampa Bay — 18th-largest in the U.S.
- 28M+
- visitors a year searching “near me” in Tampa
- ~28%
- of Google clicks go to the #1 result (Backlinko)
03
Who you're actually up against in Tampa Bay
These are checkable, not marketing math. Hillsborough County has roughly 58,000 business establishments (Florida's Office of Economic and Demographic Research, 2024). The metro holds about 3.4 million people, the 18th-largest in the country (U.S. Census, 2024). Westshore alone — Florida's largest office district — packs more than 4,000 businesses into a few square miles (Westshore Alliance). Add dozens of established agencies, and page one for anything worth ranking is crowded.
But crowded is not the same as won. Across the web, Ahrefs found 96.55% of pages get zero traffic from Google. Most of those 58,000 businesses do little real SEO, and a small number do it well. In a market this big, the distance between those two groups is a lot of customers.
04
How Tampa businesses actually win local search
Local ranking here is mostly technical and mostly ignored. The levers that move it:
Own your Google Business Profile
Claimed, verified, and fully filled out for your real Tampa location — the single biggest lever for the map pack.
Pages for the areas you actually serve
Real pages for Westshore, South Tampa, Ybor, Brandon, St. Pete, Clearwater — not one thin “service areas” list.
Reviews, asked for on purpose
Tampa buyers read them. A steady, answered review flow moves both rankings and calls.
Consistent name, address, and phone
Matching details across Google, your site, and directories, so Google trusts which Tampa business you are.
Fast on a phone
Half your traffic is a resident or visitor on mobile. Slow pages lose them before they finish loading.
Content that answers Tampa searches
Pages written for what your customers actually type, with the neighborhood and the intent baked in.
05
The “near me” goldmine most Tampa sites miss
Tampa Bay pulls more than 28 million visitors a year on top of 3.4 million residents (Visit Tampa Bay / Tourism Economics, 2024). That is a huge stream of “near me,” “open now,” and “best in Tampa” searches — people ready to call or walk in today. Google's own research on local search found most of these lead to a visit within a day. If you are not in the top three, that visit goes to whoever is.
Tourism makes this sharper than a normal metro. A hungry family near Water Street, a traveler off a ship at Channelside, a parent searching “urgent care near me” in Brandon — they pick from the map pack, fast. Winning that moment is mostly technical: a claimed profile, a fast page, and content that matches the search.
06
Going deeper: are you elite, or invisible?
Are you elite, or invisible? Score your site.
Check every signal your site already has in place. Most Florida businesses clear one or two. The sites that rank clear nearly all of them — that's the whole gap, in eight boxes.
Mostly invisible
1 / 8 gates
This is a self-check, not a ranking guarantee. Few sites clear every gate at once — the boxes you left unchecked are usually where the ranking gap hides. Send me your site and I'll tell you the two to fix first, free.
07
Tampa industries and the local-search fight in each
Where competition concentrates in Tampa Bay — and the opening most businesses leave on the table:
| Industry | Where the fight is | The opening |
|---|---|---|
| Home services | HVAC, roofing, plumbing, pest, lawn — Tampa's most crowded local pack | Neighborhood pages and reviews win the map, not the biggest ad budget |
| Healthcare practices | Dental, med-spa, chiropractic, urgent care | Schema, location pages, and speed most practices never set up |
| Legal | Personal injury, family, immigration — high-value, heavily contested | Real content depth and authority beat template lawyer sites |
| Restaurants & hospitality | Feeding 28M visitors plus residents | “Near me” visibility, fast mobile, current hours and menus |
| Real estate | Agents and brokerages everywhere | Hyper-local area pages and fresh content separate you from the feed |
Saturation is per-keyword and per-neighborhood, not per-city. The searches you can win first are usually narrower than “Tampa.”

Based in Georgia, working across Tampa Bay
Straight answer: I am not in Tampa. I'm David Weaver, based in Columbus, Georgia, and I work with Tampa Bay businesses remotely — Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, and the towns around them. The whole engagement runs on calls, email, and staging links you click from your phone.
Here is the honest part most agencies skip. Your Google Business Profile ranks on your real Tampa location — yours, not mine. I optimize the profile, build the site behind it, and wire the tracking; the local presence Google rewards is your address, honestly claimed. I won't invent a Westshore suite I don't sit in. Distance doesn't change the work — pretending about it would.
Proof over promises

Straight answers
Asked often. Answered honestly.
- Are you based in Tampa?
- No — I'm in Columbus, Georgia, and I work with Tampa Bay businesses remotely. Your Tampa location is what ranks locally; I build and optimize the site and profile behind it. The work is the same whether your shop is in South Tampa or a mile from me.
- Can you guarantee I'll hit the Tampa map pack or rank #1?
- No. Anyone who guarantees a position is selling weather. I can promise the work: a faster, better-structured, properly marked-up site and profile that give you a real shot at the top — and honest reporting on what actually moves.
- Which Tampa Bay areas do you work with?
- All of them — Tampa proper, plus St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Brandon, and districts like Westshore, South Tampa, Ybor, and Channelside. The right approach is per-neighborhood, not one generic “Tampa” page.
- My Tampa industry is saturated — can I still rank?
- Usually, yes. Saturation is per-keyword and per-neighborhood. “Roofer in Tampa” is a war; “metal roof repair in Seminole Heights” is often wide open. I target the searches you can actually win first, then expand.
- Do I need a physical Tampa address to rank locally?
- For the map pack, Google needs a real presence in the area you claim — a storefront or a verified service-area business. If you have a Tampa location, I optimize it honestly. If you don't, we focus on organic and searches that don't require a pin. I won't fake an address; that gets profiles suspended.
- How much does Tampa SEO cost?
- It starts at a $750 audit and roadmap, credited fully into a $2,500 foundation sprint if you continue. Retainers run $500 to $3,000 a month depending on how many pages and neighborhoods you want. Full pricing is on this site — no hidden numbers.
- How are you different from the other Tampa SEO agencies?
- You work with the person who does the work — no account manager, no juniors on the keys. One senior builder who designs, codes, and answers your email. Dozens of Tampa agencies sell hours; I sell a system that ranks.
- What do the two scorecards above tell me?
- The first scores your local-search setup; the second checks the deeper signals like schema, speed, and backlinks. Both are free, with no email required. Send me your results and I'll tell you the two things to fix first.
Score your site above, then send me the result. I'll tell you the two things to fix first — free, and with no retainer required to start.
