Truth Social is about to sell traders a millisecond head start on the president's posts
From August 1, Trump Media will sell institutions a machine-readable feed of top Truth Social accounts delivered in milliseconds — reported at up to $100,000 a month. The posts stay free to read. What is being sold is the head start.

On August 1, 2026, Trump Media & Technology Group begins selling institutions something that did not exist as a product before: a machine-readable, real-time feed of Truth Social posts, delivered — in the company's own word — "in milliseconds."
It is called the Truth API. Reuters reported a top pricing tier of $100,000 a month, with customers already signing up before launch.
Start with the sentence that clears up most of the confusion: nothing is being taken away from you. Truth Social posts remain free to read on the site and in the app, exactly as before. What is being sold is a head start — the same words, earlier, in a format a trading system can act on without a human in the loop.
That is a real product with a long precedent. It is also, in this specific case, a genuinely new thing in American public life, and it is worth being precise about which part is which.
What the product actually is
Per the company's announcement and the reporting on it:
- Real-time coverage of the platform's top 10 ranking accounts. Note the wording — the product is defined by ranking, not by naming anyone.
- Delivery in milliseconds, aimed explicitly at organisations sensitive to information delay: high-frequency and algorithmic trading firms.
- Continuous 24/7 coverage, plus a historical archive of posts back to 2022 — useful for backtesting a strategy against how markets moved on past posts.
- Launch August 1, 2026, disclosed in a company announcement and a regulatory filing.
Low-latency data feeds are ordinary market infrastructure. Exchanges sell them. Newswires sell them. Firms spend enormous sums shaving microseconds off the path between an event and their order book, and none of that is exotic or improper on its own.
The part that is not ordinary
The source.
Announcements made through the president's Truth Social account — tariff decisions and trade restrictions among them — have moved markets worldwide. That track record is precisely why a millisecond advantage on those posts has commercial value. A feed of a normal social platform's top ten accounts would not fetch $100,000 a month.
So the arrangement stacks three things that do not usually sit together: official announcements, a paid speed advantage, and a seller in which the announcer is one of the largest shareholders.
Virginia Canter, an ethics attorney with Democracy Defenders Fund, put the objection directly: it is "a huge conflict of interest," she said, because the president "has an obligation to the American people to convey information to them publicly, and he's now funneling it through a private channel in which he has a private interest as one of its largest shareholders."
That is a named expert's characterisation. It is not a finding by anyone with the authority to make one — no regulator has acted, and no court has ruled. We are going to keep saying that, because the gap between "ethics experts are alarmed" and "this is illegal" is where most of the commentary on this story quietly collapses.
The tool below sorts every circulating claim into what the company announced, what reporters sourced, what critics allege, and what nobody knows.

The Truth API: what is announced, what is reported, what is alleged, and what is unknown

Trump Media is launching a paid data feed of Truth Social posts on August 1, 2026.
ConfirmedThe company announced the Truth API, a licensed, machine-readable feed for institutional customers, with availability beginning August 1, 2026. It disclosed the launch in a company announcement and a regulatory filing.

The feed covers the top 10 ranking Truth Social accounts, plus an archive back to 2022.
ConfirmedReal-time coverage is described as the platform's top 10 ranking accounts, with continuous 24/7 delivery and a historical archive of posts dating to 2022. Note the wording: the product is defined by account ranking, not by naming individuals.
The president's own account is included in the feed.
DisputedThis is the assumption doing the most work in the coverage, and the company has not said it outright. The product is defined as the top 10 ranking accounts; whether the president's account is among them at any given moment is a consequence of a ranking the company controls. Reporting has hedged it — NBC News wrote that the accounts include 'possibly his own'. Commercially the premise is obvious. Formally it is not stated.

Trump's posts have moved markets before.
ConfirmedWell documented. Announcements made through his Truth Social account — tariff decisions and trade restrictions among them — have moved markets worldwide. That track record is the reason a latency advantage on those posts has commercial value at all.

It is a conflict of interest for the president to monetise access to his own announcements.
DisputedAn attributed criticism, and a pointed one. Virginia Canter, an ethics attorney with Democracy Defenders Fund, called it 'a huge conflict of interest', arguing the president has an obligation to convey information to the public and is instead funnelling it through a private channel in which he is one of the largest shareholders. That is a named expert's characterisation, not a finding by any body with authority to make one.
Selling early access to market-moving official announcements is illegal.
UnknownNo regulator has acted and no court has ruled. The arrangement sits in an unusual space: paid low-latency feeds of public data are ordinary market infrastructure — exchanges and newswires sell them — while the source here is a sitting president who is also a major shareholder in the seller. Whether existing securities or ethics rules reach that combination has not been tested.
Buyers will actually make money from the head start.
UnknownUnproven, and at least one analysis is sceptical: Reuters Breakingviews argued the data trade faces diminishing returns, on the logic that an edge everyone can buy stops being an edge. The product has not launched, so there is no performance record to point at in either direction.
Ordinary users now have to pay to read Truth Social posts.
ConfirmedNo. Posts remain free to read on the Truth Social site and app as before. What is being sold is speed and machine-readability to institutional customers — the same posts, earlier and in a format a trading system can consume. If you just want to read them, nothing has changed.
How this is calculated
Each row is one claim in circulation. CONFIRMED means the company has announced it or it appears in a regulatory filing or in corroborated reporting. DISPUTED means informed people disagree, or the claim is a characterisation rather than a fact. UNKNOWN means the question is open and no authority has resolved it — which, for the legal and market-impact questions, is the accurate answer rather than a dodge. Prices and product details are reproduced as reported, attributed to whoever reported them, and are not restated as the company's own figures unless the company published them.

Assumptions, limitations & sources
Assumptions
- · Company statements are recorded as claims by the company, not as independently verified facts.
- · Critics' characterisations are recorded as attributed opinion, with the speaker named.
Limitations
- · Not legal advice and not investment advice. Whether any of this violates a securities or ethics rule is a question for regulators and courts, and none has ruled.
- · The product had not launched when this was last verified, so every claim about how it performs in practice is a claim about a thing that has not happened yet.
- · Pricing reported by one outlet and not confirmed by the company is marked as such; treat single-source figures accordingly.

The claim the coverage keeps making that the company has not
Almost every write-up frames this as selling early access to Trump's posts. Commercially, that is obviously the premise. Formally, the company has not said it.
The product is defined as the top 10 ranking accounts. Whether the president's account sits in that set at any moment is a function of a ranking the platform itself controls. NBC News hedged it carefully — the accounts include "possibly his own."
That distinction may look like pedantry. It probably is not. A product defined by an internal ranking metric is a different legal object from a product defined as "the president's announcements, sold early," and if this is ever examined by a regulator, the difference between those two descriptions is likely to be the first thing anyone argues about.
Will it even work?
Worth noting that not everyone thinks the buyers are getting much.
Reuters Breakingviews argued the data trade faces diminishing returns, on a simple logic: an edge that anyone can buy stops being an edge. If every algorithmic desk on the street subscribes, they all get the post at the same millisecond and the advantage collapses into a cost of doing business — a tax on staying level rather than a route to getting ahead.
That is a forecast, not a finding. The product has not launched. Nobody has a performance record to point at, in either direction.
The questions readers are asking
Do I have to pay to read Truth Social now? No. Posts stay free on the site and app. The feed sells speed and machine-readability to institutions.
Is this insider trading? Insider trading generally involves material non-public information. These posts are public — the buyers just get them sooner. That is why the question is genuinely unsettled rather than obviously yes or obviously no, and why no enforcement action exists to point at.
How much is it? Reuters reported a top tier at $100,000 a month. The company has not published a rate card, so treat that as sourced reporting rather than a confirmed price.
Who is buying it? Reporting describes customers signing up before launch, aimed at high-frequency and algorithmic trading firms. Individual buyers have not been named.
How much of a head start is a millisecond, really? Enough. In automated markets, orders are placed in microseconds; a few milliseconds of advance notice is several lifetimes of trading. That is why the infrastructure industry exists.
Does this affect DJT stock? Trump Media is publicly traded, and it announced the product in a regulatory filing, which tells you the company considers it material. What it does to the share price is not something this newsroom will forecast.
Could Congress or the SEC stop it? Either could examine it. Neither has announced that it is doing so. The tool above keeps that row marked unknown.
What to watch
Three things, in rough order of likelihood. Whether the company names the accounts in the feed once it launches. Whether any regulator or congressional committee opens an inquiry. And whether the traders who bought it renew — because the Breakingviews argument gets tested on the first renewal cycle, not on launch day.
August 1 is the date. This story is developing, and the parts that matter most are still the parts nobody can confirm.
